There is something quietly powerful about making with your hands.
Perhaps you remember it from years ago — knitting at the kitchen table, sewing for your children, mending, creating, learning from someone older than you. Or perhaps life simply became busy, and creativity slipped gently into the background.
The Golden Thread Club was created to bring that thread back.
This is a space designed especially for older adults who would like to reconnect with their creativity — or discover it for the very first time — in a warm, welcoming and unhurried environment.
No pressure.
No expectations.
No need to be “good at art.”
Just time.
Hands.
Conversation.
And the quiet joy of making something meaningful.
⸻
A golden thread connects stories.
It runs through different chapters of life.
It ties past and present together.
We believe creativity is that thread.
It carries memory, skill, patience, humour, resilience — all the richness that only time can bring. In this club, every person brings their own thread, and together we weave something stronger.
⸻
Each session offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where participants can explore crafts such as:
Crochet, felting, weaving, spinning, macramé, patchwork, embroidery, beading, soft toy making, paper weaving and more.
Some may enjoy sampling different techniques over time. Others may wish to go deeper and truly learn one craft in detail. The direction of the club grows organically from the interests of its members.
But beyond the craft itself, something else happens.
Conversations begin.
Stories are shared.
Laughter appears unexpectedly.
And week by week, a sense of belonging forms.
Our hope is that this becomes something you genuinely look forward to — a familiar place in your week, a club that feels like yours.
⸻
The Golden Thread Club is about:
• Reducing isolation
• Encouraging lifelong learning
• Supporting wellbeing through creativity
• Building gentle, meaningful community
It began as a free pilot programme, allowing us to explore how best to serve the community. Our intention is to grow this into a sustainable, ongoing programme that continues to bring connection and creativity together.
⸻
Whether you are returning to skills you once loved, or starting completely anew, you are welcome here.
Bring curiosity.
Bring patience.
Bring your story.
We would love to weave it into the golden thread.
